The songs seem to be coming from within, rather than her gorgeous voice just mouthing words about someone or something outside her personal world. I keep hitting the replay button over and over. Rather than rest on her laurels or return to formula in any way, Donna put together a very diverse collection of songs that allowed her to express herself very differently than in the past. This CD is such a huge treat after so many years away from the studio. I've always been a fan, and she's written and performed great material in the past, but this seems like the first time that every aspect of the package is coming from her. "Fame (The Game)" is probably the track that I've worn out.
"Stamp Your Feet" is a great anthem of empowerment.
While I love to hear her belt one out, some of my favorite tracks on here go in the opposite direction.
"Be Myself Again" is a great ballad and seems once again to be very autobiographical.
It has a very fresh sound and, moreover, a very confident sound.
it's got a great electronic hook, and the lyrics are very smart.
The title cut is a real stand-out, with Donna's intonations mirroring Ziggy Marley.
Her voice is virtually unrecognizable on "Slide Over Backwards", but what a great song.
I could go on about each of the songs, but suffice it to say that they all work as individuals, and together comprise a collection that is one of Donna's very best to date.
Can't wait for the next one.
I am in my fourties and an old Donna Summer's fan. The songs in this CD are great and I loved them. I strongly recommend this CD for everyone who loves Donna's music.
However, there's this one song I really like called "Sand On My Feet", Now that's a really good song and it suits her voice well, It also has really good lyrics. I'm not a Donna Summer fan ,but, after a year of hearing alot of hype about this new CD she had out I thought "why not.", so I snatched it. I've been playing it non-stop along with along with two other tracks called "Science Of Love" & "Mr. It's okay, it's not bad and it's not what I would call good. If you're going by what someone else tells you may not want to buy in to the hype. Music" which are two Fun-upbeat dance tracks that you can "Shake ya' Body" to. Overall the CD is not anything to write home about, I couldv'e done without it, but I do appreciate the three songs I mentioned, They're really good songs, Something new to add to the iPOD if you're bored with what's on it.
I thought "Crayons" was full of disco/club hits like "I'm a Fire" but I got quite disappointed after purchasing this album. Why would such a talented artist need to release such an album where she will act like she is twenty something. I wish she put more tracks like that - which would also glitter her diva persona in a more glimmering style. Okay, queen is back - but the lyrics made me wish she didn't. I mean, she is almost sixty years old and she doesn't need to sing such crappy reggaetonish tracks. This is like a "Good Girl Gone Bad" album from a 60-year-old diva. Pointless.
I play that song all the time and loud in my car and have people asked me who is that. Cher with Believe made an awesome cd with completely new songs done in today's style and thankfully that is what Donna has done. And she has taken the Cher route and not the Vanessa Williams, Diana Ross route to make a comback. Donna will always be known for Last Dance and as a dance diva but she is sooooo much more.
Diana did have one new song on her's at least but still they were the same old songs sung countless times before. I am soooo glad to see Donna Summer is back with a new release after 17 years. The other 11 songs are very good as well. So drop this cd in and enjoy the Return of Donna Summers with Crayons. Stamp Your Feet is her Believe.
The weakest song, ironically is Crayons, I just don't care for reggae music that much but is still ok. It is a feel good, updated and awesome dance collection. Vanessa and Diana made the mistake of making a collection of remakes for their comeback. This cd brings her front and center after all these years and I am sooo glad it is selling well. What an awesome dance song, Definitely the stand out on the cd.
People can not believe that it is Donna Summer after all these years. A brand new younger generation, who may not be all that aware of her past achievements, will love this new collection and be introduced to Donna. This is the first new cd I have felt was worth purchasing in years.
